2019 Pyramid Valley Lion's Tooth Chardonnay
"From one of New Zealand's most revered vineyards, Lion's Tooth comes with a fair lick of smoke and oyster-shell aromas at first sniff. But a little aeration in glass and the delicate aromas of lemon curd, white peach, vanilla bean and cream shine through. There's weight to the palate and a lovely slippery texture. The laser-like, citrusy acidity is a reminder of just how cool the climate is up in Pyramid Valley, north of Christchurch. Persistent, layered, elegant and classy, this is one of New Zealand's most expressive Chardonnays, and it almost guarantees a long and ever-changing life ahead."

2019 Pyramid Valley Field of Fire Chardonnay
"Steve Smith MW, the new(ish) co-owner of this highly revered North Canterbury estate, hopes to make Pyramid Valley synonymous with world-class Chardonnay. He's on his way to achieving it. This vintage of Field of Fire is bright and fruity without being simple. Cantaloupe and lemon rind are delicately framed in yeasty, toasty lees and oak characters. There's a soft saline note, like seashells plucked from the beach, windswept by a cool ocean breeze. It reflects this site's unique position between the mountains and the sea. In the mouth, lemony acidity is prickly, gliding rather than slicing through the slippery texture. Oak is present but supportive, well tucked and obviously high-end. The lengthy finish makes another sip impossible to resist."

2019 Pyramid Valley Earth Smoke Pinot Noir
93 Points
"A dusty rose-petal hue, this Pinot is an elegant, cool-climate example from one of New Zealand's most unique vineyards. A enticing perfume of blueberries, dried red berries, spice, florals and herbs swirls together to create a cocktail-bitters feel, backed by a little campfire-smoke note … there's a lovely line of acidity and flavors that evokes autumnal drinking beside a charcuterie board."

2019 Pyramid Valley Angel Flower Pinot Noir
"Slightly hazy, with a color reminiscent of bricks and rose petals, Angel Flower offers bright cherry-compote aromas, framed in dried spice and florals, with a raw mineral edge. The palate is featherlight, with freshness and those same characters as on the nose. Crunchy acidity and a soft line of tannins create balance and elegance."

2020 Pyramid Valley North Canterbury 'Orange'
"The color of a flaming sunset, this orange wine, made from Pinot Gris, opens with hedonistic aromas of ginger, candied pineapple, nectarine and marmalade, backed by honeyed flower-blossom scents and the slightest mushroomy funk to remind you that we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. The palate crackles and pops with tangy flavor. There's a pithy, tannic tug on the tongue, mouthwatering acidity and a lengthy finish. Clean, ripe and fresh, this is just plain delicious."

2018 Pyramid Valley North Canterbury Chardonnay
"This wine is vibrant yet delicate. It pulses with flavors of lemon oil, wildflowers and minerals. The palate is highly textural, crunching with acidity and crackling with minerality. There's oodles of lemony fruit and a saline finish in this long, elegant, ethereal and terroir-driven wine."
- Christina Pickard, Wine Enthusiast

2019 Pyramid Valley Central Otago Pinot Noir
"This may be half the price of Pyramid's other Pinots, but quality-wise it's very nearly on par with the single-vineyard stuff. Heady aromas of red currant and rhubarb (with dried herbs and floral notes) open, followed by palate that is lightweight but quite tautly structured, with a welcome tug of spice-flecked tannins."

2020 Smith & Sheth CRU Heretaunga Chardonnay, Hawke's Bay
"This is a pristine, Burgundy-influenced Chardonnay with poise and age-worthiness. The nose is bright and enticing, with notes of lemon and melon rind set to a backdrop of cream, toast and rock salt. The full-figured palate is slippery with a vivid line of acidity. Oak and lees influence add opulence, texture and complexity while knowing their place as supporting characters."

2019 Smith & Sheth CRU Kawarau Pinot Noir, Central Otago
"Fleshy raspberry and blueberry open this plush, focused Pinot, backed by heady baking spice aromas with a lick of well-placed mocha and mint oak influence. Medium weight, there's tart cherry freshness and a tug of spicy, leathery tannins in the mouth. Structured for the long haul, but approachable now with a hearty meal, this is a serious Pinot that will last until 2032 at least."

2017 Smith & Sheth CRU Heretaunga Syrah, Hawke's Bay
"This powerful but finessed Syrah starts off with tones of herbs, vanilla and mocha, followed closely by blackberry and plum fruit. With time in the glass, more mineral, graphite and cracked pepper nuances float to the fore. The fruit is plush and silky on the tongue, laden with pepper and spice."
- Christina Pickard, Wine Enthusiast

2021 Smith & Sheth CRU Wairau Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough
"Still young—and having the potential to age in the bottle for several years—this benefits from some quick aeration in the glass if opened now. In addition to some flinty reductive notes, there are lemon oil and floral aromas along with something more in the green veg spectrum. The palate is where it really shines, with lovely lemony freshness, length and texture."
